NOMOQ installs second digital printer in the UK

NOMOQ has installed a second digital printer at its newest facility in Leamington Spa, UK, as the can wholesaler and decorator expands its capacity.

Switzerland-based NOMOQ, which prints cans with no minimum order quantity (hence its name), started out with a focus on the craft beer market in February 2022. It has since
expanded rapidly, becoming the leading supplier of decorated cans in small batches for the European beverage market.

It opened an additional production plant in the UK in 2023 to complement its Kirchheimbolanden, Germany site, and to encourage growth. Capacity has since tripled and
consequently the company has installed a second Hinterkopf D240.2 digital printer to help facilitate its offering of high-end finishes, and to improve efficiencies.

Andrew Bannister, managing director of NOMOQ Leamington, told The Canmaker during a recent visit: “I’m surprised at how quickly we’ve managed to grow the site. From a standing start we had no customers, and now we have targets of 35 million-plus [units] going into year three.

“Our second line was [installed] in December/January, and we have more than tripled our capacity. Both lines are running 24/7 with well over one million cans per week.”

Bannister said it was “the right time [to introduce a second printer]”, due to some technical aspects. “We decided to change the set-up of the second line. It gives us a lot more flexibility, and the second line can handle different pallet sizes from the first line. It also allows us to look, from a group perspective, at our planning, and if we want to produce jobs for Europe, we’re able to do that here.”
