July 24: The group lobbying for the canmaking industry in North America against a campaign to ban the use of Bisphenol-A, a key component of some can coatings, has applauded the announcement yesterday by the European Food Safety Authority that it is safe as used in food and beverage contact applications.
“The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) stated unequivocally that the human body rapidly metabolizes and eliminates BPA, and therefore it presents no risk to infants, children, or adults,” said the North American Metal Packaging Alliance Inc (NAMPA).
