Plans for beverage can plant in Poland put back a year

December 2: One of the top beverage canmaking firms is cutting back its expansion plans Eastern Europe because of “slowing demand” in the region, it says.
Ball Packaging Europe is delaying the opening of its second beverage can plant in Poland. Plans for the plant at Lublin, near the eastern border with Ukraine, were announced last January and construction is already well advanced towards the original opening date in April 2009.

Production will now start a year later in 2010, said spokesperson Sylvia Bloemker. “It is because of slowing demand for canned beer in Eastern Europe,” she said. Ball will continue to finish the plant’s construction and train staff.
