Prices of aluminium cans could rise 20 percent

March 11: Aluminium prices could reach $4,500 a tonne next year, almost 50 percent higher than current prices, according to London-based analysts. And that could have a huge impact on the price of beverage cans in 2009.
Analysts at Barclays Capital said last week that a range of commodities including cereals and precious metals have reached all-time highs and that others including aluminium were at multi-year highs.
Already aluminium has been trading on the London Metal Exchange at nearly $3,200, some 20 percent above the average for 2007, following a sharp increase during February.
