May 26: Almost 40 billion aluminium drinks cans were recycled last year by Novelis, setting a record for the world’s leading aluminium canstock producer.

By recycling the used containers back into aluminium sheet for making new cans, the company estimates that it reduced its need for primary aluminium by more than 530,000 metric tons, saving approximately 73 million MBTUs of energy and avoiding the production of nearly 5 million metric tons of greenhouse gases.
