March 12: Recycling rates for packaging steels used in canmaking in Europe reached a record 69 percent in 2007, according to the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging (Apeal).
More than 2.5 million tonnes of steel food and drinks containers were recycled which, says Apeal, represents a saving of 4.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
The figures, which are the latest available, show that the recycling record for steel packaging is ahead of all other packaging materials.
