February 9: The Ball Resealable End (BRE), a recloseable lid for drinks cans developed by canmaking company Ball Packaging Europe, makes its debut in the UK market this month.

The BRE will feature on 48.5cl cans of energy drink No Fear Extreme Energy, filled by co-packer Aimia Foods under licence from US-based sportswear brand No Fear.

The end, which was launched on cans of Coca-Cola’s energy drink Burn in the French market in 2008, twists open and recloses to form a spill-proof barrier which maintains carbonation for up to 24 hours. The innovation won The Canmaker magazine’s Can Of The Year Award for 2008.
