Research into a new aluminium smelting technology that would reduce production costs and enable the more convenient location of smelters is being advanced by a deal between Alcoa and Sweden’s Orklas SAS.
Alcoa has acquired the technology associated with the carbothermic aluminium production process, previously jointly owned by the companies.
