March 12: Employees at Rexam beverage can plants in the US recycled 1,350 tonnes of used aluminium cans in a six-week contest leading up to last year’s America Recycles Day in November.
By teaming up with their local communities, the employees won the top three spots in the 2009 Aluminum Can Council’s (ACC) recycling challenge. The ACC’s national competition, which coincides with Rexam’s own annual contest, challenges aluminium suppliers and can manufacturers across the US to collect the most cans per employee.
More than 105 million cans were collected and charities benefitted from contributions totalling US$2.3 million.
