More than three million used aluminium beverage cans were collected for recycling by US canmaking companies participating in the Great American Can Roundup.

The campaign, organised by the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI), encourages canmakers to team up with local organisations to recycle cans over a 108-day period, with the proceeds raised being invested back into the communities.

In total, 68 canmaking plants and corporate offices were involved, recycling more than three million cans and raising almost $75,000.
