Rexam to close its beverage can plant in France

September 22: Rexam is proposing to close its canmaking plant at Dunkirk in northern France. The move is in response to a fall in sales for beverage cans in the economic downturn and over-capacity in the French market.

The plant, which has two lines making 33cl and 50cl steel cans, was also running at less than its full capacity of 1.1 billion. Rexam is in consultation with the plant’s works council.
