Russia’s Severstal to take over Wheeling Pittsburgh

June 26: Following the acquisition of the Sparrows Point mill in the US earlier this year, Russian steelmaker Severstal has agreed this week to buy Esmark, which owns the Wheeling Pittsburgh mill in West Virginia.
Severstal’s chief executive Alexei Mordashov said: “This acquisition positions Severstal as one of North America’s leading integrated steel companies.
“With Esmark as part of our US portfolio, we’re well-positioned to provide domestic supply to a market that has a consistent demand for high quality steel.”
