Shipments of cans for fruit slip in US

August 29: Shipments of food cans in the US suffered a 1.3 percent drop to 6.7 billion units in the second quarter, according to figures published by the Can Manufacturers Institute, based in Washington DC.
The biggest drop was for canned fruits, which collapsed by more than half to 109.5 million cans, and continued a decline in the six months from the beginning of the year. If continued to the year end the loss will total 500m cans.
