Canmaker Silgan Holdings has been given until the end of Thursday to improve its bid to buy Graham Packaging, the US-based plastics packaging manufacturer.

On Tuesday New Zealand’s Reynolds Group Holdings offered $1.64 billion, or $25 per share in cash for Graham Packaging whose board is required to give Silgan the option of matching or improving on it.
