October 21: A later and smaller vegetable and fruit pack in North America this year dented sales for food can and closure manufacturer Silgan in its third-quarter results, it reported yesterday.


Overall sales were down 1.4 percent to US$1.002 billion and net profit fell to $65.2 million, from $73.8m in the same period of last year.

But chief executive Tony Allott was upbeat about the figures.
