Soft drink decline hits US demand for cans

January 20: Shipments of beverage cans in the US last year declined by 2.8 percent, largely as a result of the continuing fall in demand for cans used for soft drinks.
Overall beverage can shipments in 2008 were 97.4 billion, down from 100.1bn in 2007 and the lowest for 15 years, according to figures from the Can Manufacturers Institute in Washington DC.
