Speciality can sales help Ball's 1Q results

Sales at canmaking giant Ball Corporation were slightly up for the first quarter at US$2.04 billion, but net profit slipped to $88 million, compared with $91m in the same period in 2011.

Increased demand for speciality beverage cans in the US, including Alumi-Tek bottles and 7.5oz cans, and an upswing in demand for beverage cans in Europe were offset by lower than expected volumes in Brazil and a slower start to the year in China, said Ball.
