Steel can recycling rate rises again in Europe

The recycling rate in Europe for steel food and beverage cans rose again, reaching 72 percent in 2009, says Apeal, the industry association representing the leading producers, ArcelorMittal, Rasselstein and Tata Steel Packaging.

That was two percentage points more than in 2008 and, says Apeal, places steel “far ahead of other packaging materials such as plastics, beverage cartons and glass” which respectively have rates of 30 percent, 34 percent and 67 percent.
