Strike at Rexam could cost £15m

May 3: Losses resulting from the strike at some of Rexam’s beverage can plants in the US could reach £15 million (US$30m), chairman Rolf Börjesson told the company’s annual general meeting today.
But 900 members of the United Steelworkers union at nine Rexam plants who went on strike on April 10 could return to work from Sunday May 6. The four-week dispute was over health care costs.
Yesterday the USW union announced that it had reached a tentative agreement with Rexam, details of which will be discussed with members this week prior to ratification votes at the plants on Saturday.
