February 6: An unexpected rise in demand for tinplate from the UK canmaking industry means that a threat to 290 jobs at the Corus Packaging Plus (CPP) mill in South Wales has been put on hold.
The jobs were expected to be lost as part of a restructuring of the CPP businesses in Europe which would cut its capacity by 300,000 tonnes.
