April 9: The world’s largest aluminium aerosol and bottle canmaking company, US-based Exal Corporation, has been bought by a Canadian teachers’ pension fund for an undisclosed sum.

The Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTTP) runs the pension fund for 289,000 active and retired teachers in Ontario. With C$96.4 billion (US$95.6bn) in net assets, OTTP is the largest single-profession pension plan in Canada and last month acquired the UK’s national lottery operator Camelot.
