December 4: Recycling of packaging steels in Europe rose by five percent to more than 2.5 million tonnes last year, enough to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide by 4.7 million tonnes.
According to Apeal, the European association of packaging steel manufacturers based in Brussels, this reinforces the view that recycling of food and beverage cans and other packaging steels offers huge benefits in sustainability.
Across the 27 European Union states, plus Sweden and Norway, 66 percent of packaging steel was recycled in 2006.
