Two years on, canmakers flee Syria

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported in March that more than one million people, half of whom are children, had fled Syria and were registered as refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt.

They represent 5 percent of Syria’s population before the unrest that began on 15 March 2011, and at the current rate the number could climb to nearly 3 million by year end, the UNHCR warned.
