The UK’s aluminium packaging recycling rate could jump significantly if proposals to exclude aluminium in laminates and cartons in an Environment Department (Defra) consultation document are taken up.
In a bid to cut packaging waste going to landfill by 400,000 tonnes over the next five years, Defra has called for aluminium recycling to increase by 3 percent a year, from 40 percent in 2012 to 55 percent in 2017.
