Shipments in the US of cans for aerosol applications such as personal care continued to grow in the first quarter of 2011 with a rise of 5.1 percent over the same period last year to 897 million units.

Cans used for applications such as paints and automotive products were down slightly by 0.4 percent to 241 million, but overall the non-food sector shipments reached 1.14 billion, up 3.9 percent, according to the Can Manufacturers Institute.
