October 16: US beverage can shipments in the third quarter were 24.65 billion, down 0.9 percent compared with the same period in 2008.

The figure, from the Can Manufacturers Institute, reflects a similar percentage drop in the first nine months of 2009, but indicates a slowing of the decline in shipments for soft drinks cans which were down 1.7 percent year-on-year.
