US mills achieve higher contract prices for tinplate

December 17: With consumers becoming increasingly value conscious and turning to canned food products, demand for tinplate used in canmaking is growing.
According to data by the American Iron & Steel Institute (AISI), shipments of tin mill products increased by 13 percent in the first eight months of the year, compared to 2007 levels.
And with a tight supply-demand balance in tinplate, US mills are reportedly achieving higher prices for next year’s contracts.
