A California winery has launched a range of wines in aluminium bottles made by canmaking firm Exal to meet demand for sustainable gifts at Christmas. They are claimed to be the first US wines sold in aluminium.

Napa Valley-based JT Wines ordered the aluminium bottles for its FLASQ Wines brand because they are “100 percent recyclable, shatter-proof, quick-chilling and sustainable”.

Exal chief executive Mike Hoffman said that the bottles are an 37.5cl impact-extruded design: “This is a premium bottle and we believe is a meaningful launch for aluminium into the wine category.”
