VOC-free aerosol makes cans even more eco-friendly

May 20: A recently launched aerosol dispensing system uses compressed air as its propellant instead of hydrocarbons and therefore emits no volatile organic compounds (VOC), says its co-developer Crown Holdings.
Called the EarthSafe Dispensing System, it was developed by the canmaker in collaboration with Chris Scheindel, president of US-based packaging research company Ultramotive Corporation.
“The use of compressed air reduces VOCs and in turn, decreases the impact on the environment,” said Ray McGowan, president of Crown Americas.
