Weight savings for Kirin beer cans in Japan

Beer cans used by the Kirin Brewery in Japan will be lightweighted by its canmaking suppliers enough to save 4,000 tonnes of aluminium a year.

In a project with canmakers Daiwa, Toyo Seikan and Universal Can, the 35cl cans used by Kirin have been reduced in weight by one gram to 14 grams, which the brewery said is the lightest in the industry. A similar weight saving is expected for 50cl cans (pictured).
